Find out about current crop production issues in the field
Amidst machinery demonstrations, the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture (LWK), together with the Lower Saxony Seed Producers’ Association (SEG) and the Dethlingen Research Station (VSD), is highlighting current crop production challenges and issues in potato cultivation across six demonstration fields. Right next to these, sugar beet is also being grown on six demonstration fields. These plots are managed by Nordzucker AG, the sugar beet growers’ associations, ARGE NORD e.V. and the LWK. Approaches to ensuring that root crop cultivation remains economically viable in the future and that farms stay competitive run like a common thread through the experimental facility.
The focus is on seedling health, the monitoring of aphids and the reed glasswing cicada. In addition, various crop rotation strategies, herbicide programmes and combined mechanical and chemical methods of weed control will be presented. Visitors can also directly compare different varieties and plant protection strategies and gain an insight into how resistant and susceptible varieties develop under natural infection conditions. The focus here is particularly on leaf diseases such as Cercospora in sugar beet and Phytophthora in potatoes.
