Potato cultivation is currently facing enormous challenges. Rising demands for sustainability, increasing weather extremes due to climate change and the growing pressure to use resources more efficiently are shaping the work of our industry. At the same time, retailers and consumers expect consistently high quality - regardless of location or season. For farmers, this means that they need reliable partners who offer practical solutions and make innovations tangible.

This is exactly where we come in. With our technologies and services, we support farms in securing their yields, increasing quality and at the same time sustainably optimizing the use of resources such as water, fertilizers and pesticides. Digital tools, precise cultivation methods and robust varieties play a decisive role in this. Our aim is to future-proof potato production - economically, ecologically and socially.

We hope that our participation in PotatoEurope 2026 will enable us to engage directly with practitioners. Because this is where you can see which ideas really work in the field. The opportunity to demonstrate innovations live and develop them further in expert discussions makes this event unique. The international focus also offers the opportunity to share experiences across national borders and gain new impetus for the entire value chain.

SugarBeet Expo combines innovation with practical relevance. It focuses on sugar beet - from seed to cultivation technologies to harvesting. At Nordzucker, we see ourselves as a solution provider for our growers. We are thinking about the future of sugar beet cultivation and facing up to the challenges of today.

SugarBeet Expo offers a platform for professional exchange - both nationally and internationally. It brings farmers together with players from research, technology and processing. After all, dialog about innovative ideas and practical solutions is crucial for the continuous development of sugar beet cultivation. We want to pool expertise and work together with practitioners to make cultivation successful, resilient and economically attractive.

For many farms, sugar beet cultivation is an integral part of crop rotation and an important economic pillar. At the same time, it faces growing challenges: Existing leaf diseases such as Cercospora, new threats such as the SBR disease complex and climatic extremes - from heavy rainfall to drought - affect yield and sugar content. These developments require agronomic strategies that are both effective and sustainable.

The requirements for sustainability aspects in agriculture are also increasing. Reducing the CO₂ footprint of beet is a central goal of our Nordzucker decarbonization strategy. Initial pilot projects - for example with CO₂-reduced fertilizers - have been launched. Further measures, including in combination with catch crops and soil cultivation, are being planned.

The diverse event formats at SugarBeet Expo provide practical solutions, inspiration and concrete application examples - directly from the field for practical use. Nordzucker is present as a regional site partner and, together with the regional sugar beet growers' associations, is available for an open exchange. Thanks to the close cooperation with ARGE Nord e. V. and other partners, such as the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture, participants can acquire in-depth expert knowledge at this event in order to further promote innovations in beet cultivation. This is what we - and many other committed sugar beet partners - stand for.

On our demo plots set up especially for the trade fair, we will demonstrate in a practical way which crop cultivation adjustments are currently in focus. We can discuss innovative approaches and further developments in sugar beet and potato cultivation with farmers directly in the field.

Gerald Burgdorf, Head of the Crop Production Department, LWK Lower Saxony

Sugar beet and potatoes are strong crops for Lower Saxony. Almost every second potato harvested in Germany and at least every fifth sugar beet comes from arable land in Lower Saxony. These figures impressively underline the central importance of both crops for our farms.

On many farms, sugar beet and potatoes are fixed components of the crop rotation and make a significant contribution to the farm income. Their successful cultivation requires not only technical know-how, but also in-depth agronomic expertise. At the same time, farms are constantly facing new challenges - be it due to climatic changes, political framework conditions or increasing demands for sustainability and efficiency.

As the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture, we are on hand to advise farms. Together we work on short, medium and long-term solutions, optimize the use of production resources and accompany the way to a successful harvest.

On our demo plots set up especially for the trade fair, we demonstrate in a practical way which crop cultivation adjustments are currently in focus. We can discuss innovative approaches and further developments in sugar beet and potato cultivation with farmers directly in the field.

With the merger of SugarBeet Expo and PotatoEurope, we are postponing the traditional Lower Saxony Sugar Beet Day by one year, but will of course also be taking up our tried-and-tested advisory focuses here. We look forward to a personal exchange with you - directly on site in Gestorf.

With its event concept as a trade exhibition with "field day character", PotatoEurope offers a wide range of information on the cultivation, storage, processing and marketing of potatoes and allows visitors to experience innovations at first hand in the machine demonstrations.

Andreas Meyer, Head of Dethlingen Experimental Station, LWK Lower Saxony

The potato is an exceptional crop, as it makes it possible to achieve attractive added value in arable farming on both light and heavy soils. In addition to cultivation, the farmer is also responsible for storing and processing potatoes. This is both a challenge and an opportunity, as additional added value can also be generated here. The potato thus offers an opportunity to enter deeper into the value chain beyond pure size growth.

The Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture and the Dethlingen Experimental Station offer a coordinated advisory program for both established potato farms and newcomers: while the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture offers a regionally coordinated advisory service in the field of crop production, the Dethlingen Experimental Station provides nationwide advice on the storage and processing of potatoes and potato growing technology in general.

We are proud to already be able to offer new, improved varieties that meet the expectations of farmers, processors and consumers. We are therefore delighted to be able to present these at Potato Europe 2026, as the trade fair is now the most important of its kind in Europe and also attracts interested parties from all over the world.

Arne Rehnert, Managing Director, Interseed Potatoes GmbH

Rehnert long

The most important trends in Interseed Potatoes' breeding work are the breeding of new, improved potato varieties that represent sustainable progress for consumers, growers and processors! Interseed Potatoes specializes in breeding new varieties for processing into French fries and potato chips and we now offer our varieties around the world. We test our new varieties for their processing properties at a very early stage, as these play a key role in determining the success of a variety. Against the backdrop of climate change, we are looking for robust varieties with low input and maximum yield!

Consumers and processors of potato products expect future varieties with better properties, especially with regard to the need for fertilizers and pesticides. High yield is still the most important criterion to ensure food supply and new varieties with better drought and heat tolerance should be preferred over established varieties on the market that do not have these advantages.

Strong and robust potato varieties are also urgently needed under new political conditions and in times of climate change in order to be able to offer consumers healthy potato products. At the same time, our varieties should provide farmers and processors with tangible added value so that they can continue to grow potatoes profitably and sustainably in the future.

We are proud to already be able to offer new varieties that meet all these expectations. We are therefore delighted to be able to present these at Potato Europe 2026, as the trade fair is now the most important of its kind in Europe and also attracts interested parties from all over the world. It is therefore an excellent opportunity for us and the visitors to network and jointly develop solutions for the challenges of the future.
