Union of the German Potato Industry e. V.
Designed as a platform for the German potato industry to actively shape the future of the sector, the UNIKA unites all stages of the potato value chain. Our members are associations, organisations and companies along the potato production chain, from breeding, seed production and propagation to primary production, the packaging trade and upstream and downstream areas. The association represents the interests of the value chain at a professional and political level.
Working together to develop solutions across all levels
The main pillars of the association are the advisory board as an advisory committee and the four expert commissions, which are firmly established for the areas of seed potatoes, phytosanitary issues, quality assurance and trade issues as well as technology in the potato industry.
Securing the future
Over 80 recognised experts from the various areas of the potato industry are successfully involved in the UNIKA. Together with our partners, we develop cross-interest and cross-association positions and statements. We develop viable concepts, initiate and accompany projects, and support research and development. Our aim is to promote the image and consumption of our valuable "potato" with all its versatility. One of the core tasks of the association is to strengthen the competitiveness of the German production location. UNIKA is actively involved in national and European legislative processes.
Communication and expertise in specialised topics
For politicians, authorities, institutions and the media, the UNIKA is the central point of contact for all aspects of the potato. As a link in the potato industry, the association brings together social and political issues in addition to specialised topics. UNIKA's committees and working groups provide a platform for discussing specialised topics at an early stage and across all levels at the highest level and for jointly developing solutions. The basic idea of "working together to develop solutions across all levels" is an integral part of the organisation's philosophy, enabling it to join forces and be heard both nationally and internationally.
The association
Founded in 2001, the UNIKA founded in 2001 and based in Berlin, represents the interests of the German potato industry both internally and externally. UNIKA's Chairman of the Board is Olaf Feuerborn, his deputy is Leo von Kameke. The other members of the board represent the different sectors of the value chain.
